Department of Languages and Literature
The Department of Languages and Literature provides a strong foundation in the English language so that students develop their communicative competence academically and in their profession. The general education courses offered by the department in composition, literature, communication, and image and film studies stress the integrative approach to knowledge through the coalescence of content that includes world cultures, aesthetic appreciation, and practical application. The objectives of the department combine the development of oral and written skills, critical thinking and analyses, argument and persuasion, and creative and aesthetic expression. The Bachelor of Arts in English Language with concentrations in Translation, Teaching of English, and Literature provides a broad introduction to content and theories not only in English, but allows application in other linguistic contexts, especially within a comparative framework, to equip graduates in a variety of career options. The department also offers a minor in practical translation.
