Testing (Learning Support Services)

At AURAK, students are encouraged to be active participants in their own learning. Why do students visit Testing Services?

  • They may be struggling with a specific course
  • They may be struggling with many, or even all of their courses
  • They may want to learn more effective (test-focused) study skills

Testing Services offered include:

Cognitive Assessments

The Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services is licensed to conduct “cognitive assessments.”  These assessments identify areas of strength and potential weakness in a student’s approach to learning (IS THIS CORRECT?).  In implementing these assessments, the Department is able to work with students to develop their existing strengths so as to promote a more positive and effective learning experience. Students who require a cognitive assessment should speak directly with staff in the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services.

Achievement Assessments

The Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services is licensed to conduct “achievement assessments” to identify a student’s current academic levels. These assessments allow the student to obtain information about gaps in their current understanding.  Accordingly, the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services can assist students with strategies and techniques to lessen the impact of learning gaps. Students who require an achievement assessment should speak directly with staff in the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services.

ADHD Screening

The Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services is licensed to conduct “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (ADHD) Screenings.” If a student exhibits ADHD characteristics, s/he will be referred to his/her physician for a final diagnosis.  The Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services provides students with ADHD training in techniques and strategies to negate its debilitating effects. Students who require an ADHD screening should speak directly with staff in the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services.

Learning Styles Inventories

The Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services is licensed to conduct “Learning Style Inventories” to identify a student’s current academic levels.  These inventories are targeted to provide students with information regarding their specific learning style. (Styles include: verbal linguistic learners; kinesthetic learners; musical learners; visual spatial learners; naturalistic learners; etc.)  By identifying a student’s natural learning style, the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services is able to make suggestions which, in turn, should positively impact the way this student approaches his/her learning. Students who require a Learning Style Inventory should speak directly with staff in the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services.
