We are delighted to welcome you to the very first edition of the quarterly newsletter from the American University of Ras Al Khaimah.  As the University continues to develop and grow, we are always seeking to expand our outreach and connect with the community in new ways.  Our newsletter will contain all the latest news, both academic and non-academic, as well as upcoming events.

The beginning of 2016 has been non-stop at AURAK.  The impressive Building G is now open, official partnership agreements have been signed with fellow institutions of higher education in the United States, while various conferences and workshops continue to take place on campus.

Dignitary Visits and Memoranda of Understanding

RAK Ruler's Wife Receives AURAK Delegation

The wife of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Sheikha Hana bint Juma Al Majid, today received a delegation from the American University of Ras Al Khaimah at the Ruler’s Palace, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Sheikha Hana welcomed the delegation and spoke about the importance of equal rights for women in all fields, particularly in terms of education and employment.

AURAK Signs MoU with University of Nebraska at Kearney

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) and the University of Nebraska – Kearney (UNK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding today at AURAK head offices in Ras Al Khaimah.

The MoU allows students of both institutions to study in a different part of the world and experience another culture. It also allows both universities to develop joint programs that can benefit their students.

German Consul General Attends AURAK Workshop

The German Consul General in Dubai, His Excellency Stefan Gallon, was at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah this afternoon in order to give the final address at the closing ceremony of the Energy and Water in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries (EWGCC) workshop.

The three-day workshop was organized by the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) and Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, a university of applied sciences located in Germany. The conference was also funded by the German Research Foundation.

HCT Vice Chancellor Visits AURAK

Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, visited the American University of Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday, in order to meet AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim.

AURAK Signs MoU with RAK Precast

The American University or Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with RAK Precast, a firm based in Jazeera Al Hamra.

Konkuk Becomes AURAK's Latest Partner

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah and Konkuk University, a South Korean institution with its main campus in Seoul, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

Prof. Abdullah Attends Kuwaiti Celebration

Dean of the School of Business at AURAK, Professor Abdullah Alhumoud, was yesterday representing the University at a gala event at the St. Regis in Dubai.

AURAK Attends SACSCOC Annual Conference

AURAK has attended the annual conference of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).  The conference was held in Houston, Texas, in the United States between the 5th and 8th of December, 2015.

The travelling delegation consisted of Prof. Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, Dr. Claudette Williams, Prof. Mousa Mohsen and Prof. Abdullah Alhumoud.

School of Business Granted AACSB Membership

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s School of Business has officially been granted membership to the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

AACSB International is a global, nonprofit membership organization of educational institutions, businesses, and other entities devoted to the advancement of management education. Established in 1916, AACSB International provides its members with a variety of products and services to assist them with the continuous improvement of their business programs and schools.

CCE&CS Earns ISO Certification

The Center for Continuing Education and Community Services (CCE&CS) at AURAK has gained the International Certificate ISO 9001/2008 for quality management from the International Organization for Standardization.

AURAK Team Celebrates SACSCOC Application

AURAK faculty and staff enjoy an evening at Qamr Al Deen in celebration of submitting a revised application to SACSCOC.

Energy and Water Workshop Launches at AURAK

Today saw the opening of the 2016 Energy and Water in the Gulf Cooperation Council workshop (EWGCC); the first of its kind in the region.

The workshop has been organized by the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) in collaboration with Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, a university of applied sciences based in Germany. The workshop is also supported by German Research Foundation (DFG).

School of Engineering Hosts Camp

AURAK has hosted an ‘Engineering Camp’, showing prospective students what the School of Engineering has to offer. A large number of people attended the one-day program at the University.

Prof. Al Fajjawi Speaks at Harvard

AURAK’s Professor Omar Al Fajjawi was invited to the US last week in order to present at Harvard’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies and the University of Oklahoma’s College of International Studies.

AURAK Hosts First ‘Imagination Conference’

AURAK’s Department of Humanities and Social Sciences has hosted its first Conference on Imagination. The two-day conference, focused on attempting to understand imagination and its link with creativity.

'Engineer’s Role in Economic Development'

The workshop was officially opened by AURAK president, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, who praised the initiative, underlining the importance of engineering innovation in tackling the problems we face in modern society.

Media Students Attend MEPRA Conference

AURAK was represented at MEPRA Connect this morning at RAK Chamber of Commerce. The conference was organized by the Middle East Public Relations Association, in conjunction with RAK Media Office.

AURAK Celebrates 'Year of Reading'

AURAK, through its Department of Languages and Literature, today hosted a celebration of reading and literature, in an effort to engage more people in this valuable pastime.

AURAK Celebrates 5th Annual Global Day

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah has hosted its 5th annual Global Day, celebrating the cultural diversity offered at the University.

The afternoon began with an Olympic-style parade of all the participating countries, led by the RAK Police band. Students, staff, faculty and several visitors who came to the university to witness the celebration, were then able to visit the variety of stalls which were constructed to demonstrate aspects of each country’s culture.

Twenty Employers Participate in AURAK Job Fair

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) and its School of Engineering is currently hosting a job fair, organized in cooperation with the RAK Human Resources Department..

The fair was officially opened this morning by Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, President of AURAK, who stated, “This initiative represents an excellent opportunity for employers and potential employees to network and connect.”

AURAK Celebrates Seventh Anniversary

AURAK has today celebrated its seventh anniversary, having officially been established on April 8, 2009.

AURAK Raises AED 100,000 for Cancer Patients

The Department of Biotechnology hosted a charity fundraiser at the weekend, successfully raising over 100,000 AED, all of which will go towards treating children who are suffering from cancer.

Students Take Trip to Al Samaliya Island

The Student Life Office organized a day-trip to Abu Dhabi, accompanying a group of students to Al Samaliya Island and Heritage Village.

Movie Night at AURAK

AURAK students yesterday took advantage of the cool winter weather to enjoy a movie night on the AURAK football field.

Corporate Team Wins Corporate Tournament

AURAK's corporate football team, composed of faculty, staff and students won the Ras Al Khaimah Corporate Football Tournament this weekend.

Students Climb to Jais Summit

AURAK’s Student Life Office arranged a trip to Jais Mountain today.  A group of students climbed to the peak before descending to enjoy a barbecue.

Dr. Rusty Waller was interviewed by Emarat Al Youm, intrigued by his decision to wear traditional Emirati dress to work.

Admissions Team Travels to Riyadh

AURAK was represented at the Ta'aleem exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the admissions team travelling to spread the university's name.
