Welcome to the first newsletter of 2017!

Concluding the semester in December 2016, the School of Engineering hosted an IEEE-sponsored three-day workshop on campus, and also held an academic-industrial workshop within the field of computer science and engineering. Professor Mousa Mohsen, dean of the School of Engineering, travelled to Jordan for the annual conference of the Association of Arab Universities of which AURAK is a member, and the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research added AURAK to its like of approved institutions of higher education.

The university has been on its winter break over the last couple of weeks, with everyone ready to start afresh on Sunday, Jan. 15, when classes resume.

Dignitary Visits and Memoranda of Understanding

AURAK Signs MoU with Camfil

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) today signed a memorandum of understanding with Camfil, a global leader within the air filtration industry.

A delegation from Camfil, consisting of Mr. Rahul Uppal, managing director, Dr. Nodirjon Rasulov and Dr. Madina Khodzhaeva, visited the university, meeting with AURAK president, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, and representatives from the institution’s School of Engineering.

AURAK Students Successfully Implement Vertical Farming

Students at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) have successfully implemented vertical farming for the first time within the context of the harsh climate of the United Arab Emirates.

he project, which was prepared by two junior biotechnology students, Najath Abdulkareem and Nada Anwar, was one of several submitted by the university as part of the UAE’s second annual Innovation Week, an initiative mandated by the prime minister of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

IEEE Conference Launched in Ras Al Khaimah

The 5th International Conference on Electronic Devices, Systems and Applications (ICEDSA 2016), sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), was today launched in Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.

Taking place on the AURAK campus, the conference runs until Thursday, December 8, and focuses on the latest theoretical and practical developments in the field of electronic devices, systems and applications.

Biotech Students Attend Forensics Seminar in Dubai

Twenty students within AURAK's biotechnology program were invited to attend a seminar titled ‘Forensic Science: Prepare for Next Generation’ at Amity University in Dubai last month.

The students are all currently studying from the course ‘Biology 423: Advanced Molecular Biology and Forensic Sciences’ with Dr. Maxime Merheb from AURAK’s Department of Biotechnology.

AURAK Officially Recognized in Jordan

The Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has officially announced that AURAK has been placed on its list of formally recognized institutions of higher education.

Happy birthday, UAE! A Gift from AURAK Students

Some people decorate their cars, some people raise flags, others paint their faces with the colors of the union. Everyone expresses their feelings in their own idiosyncratic way, but one thing in common among all of these people is that they all love the United Arab Emirates.

A team from the American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s computer science program, Dr. Said Elnaffar, alongside Aisha El Allam and Maryam Abdullah, two junior students, used their creative talent to express their love for UAE via technology and programming

Dr. Rusty Guest of Honor at IPHS Graduation

Dr. Lee ‘Rusty’ Waller, interim dean of student affairs and enrollment management at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, was guest of honor at this year’s Indian Public High School (IPHS) graduation.

At the graduation ceremony, which took place at the IPHS campus on Friday, Dec. 10, Dr. Rusty represented the university, giving a speech in which he recognized the valuable contributions that India have made to the field of mathematics, as well as congratulating all graduates for completing another major milestone in their young lives.
