Welcome to the latest edition of the American University of Ras Al Khaimah's monthly newsletter.

As always, an eventful month on and off campus. The Department of International Programs and Partnerships hosted a group of 16 South Korean students from Keimyung University, visiting the United Arab Emirates for the first time.

We signed a partnership agreement with the UAE Space Agency which will lead to exciting opportunities for our faculty and students, as well as an agreement with the local guard group, who will now take care of campus security.

Following the success of December's ICEDSA conference, AURAK has been named one of IEEE's strategic partners. The School of Engineering hosted a conference promoting women's opportunities in STEM education, alongside the Arab-German Young Academy, while the university also unveiled its plans for the future development of the campus.

Dignitary Visits and Memoranda of Understanding

AURAK and UAE Space Agency Sign Partnership Agreement

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has signed a partnership agreement with the UAE Space Agency, officially putting pen to paper in the federal institution’s head office in Abu Dhabi.

Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, president, Professor Mousa Mohsen, dean of the School of Engineering and director of RAK Research and Innovation Center, and Dr. Abdul-Halim Jallad, director of the university’s newly-established ICT Center for Teaching and Creativity in Informatics Communication and Networking (ICONET), attended the signing ceremony.

AURAK Signs Agreement with Local Guard Group

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has finalized an agreement with the Local Guard Group, which is a branch of the local Ras Al Khaimah government.

The agreement, which was approved and signed by Prof. Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, president of AURAK, and Staff Brigadier Emran Solaiman Salem Al Shemli, will see the Local Guard Group providing security services throughout the campus, with personnel covering all entrances to the main campus and parking facilities.

German Consul General Visits AURAK

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has received a visit from the consul general of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Guenter Rauer.

Meeting with the provost, Prof. Bilal Akash, the dean of the School of Engineering, Prof. Mousa Mohsen, and chair of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Dr. Ahmad Sakhrieh, the two parties discussed a range of possibilities for increased cooperation.


AURAK Promotes Women’s Opportunities in STEM Education with AGYA Workshop

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) in association with the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA), has today launched the ‘Women in STEM Education and Career Pathways’ conference.

The international conference specifically focuses on boosting opportunities and awareness for women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

AURAK Named IEEE Strategic Partner

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has been selected as a strategic partner of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), UAE Section.

The award was received by Professor Mousa Mohsen, dean of the School of Engineering, at a ceremony at the IEEE UAE Section annual general meeting at the Le Meridien Hotel and Conference Centre in Dubai. The ceremony was also attended by Professor Amjad Omar, Dr. Maen Takruri and a group of AURAK IEEE student branch members.

AURAK Visits Ministry of Health in Dubai

A delegation from the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has visited the Ministry of Health and Prevention headquarters in Dubai in order to discuss the university’s biotechnology program.

The parties discussed the merits of the university’s biotechnology program, agreeing on further cooperation to promote opportunities in terms of internships and job opportunities, for both Emirati and expatriate students.

AURAK Hosts Keimyung University Visit

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) this week hosted a visit from a group of students from Keimyung University, based in Daegu, South Korea.

During their two-day stay in Ras Al Khaimah, the group of 16 students and one professor had the opportunity to learn more about the university and the emirate as a whole. They also met leaders of the university’s Student Government Association, as well as the ‘South Korean Club’ whose members share a keen interest in the arts, culture, language and traditions of the peninsula.

AURAK Launches First Phase of Campus Development Plan

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has announced the initiation of its five-year campus development plan, which will see the campus rejuvenated and the capacity expanded to accommodate a total of 5,000 students.

The first two stages of phase one, which is comprised of a new building for the School of Business and expanded accommodation for students, are already under construction. The two new student dormitories will contain more than 200 housing units, while the ground floors of the buildings will contain shopping amenities such as a supermarkets, bookstores, hairdressers and laundry facilities.
