Department of Mechanical, Electrical & Intelligent Systems Engineering
The Department of Mechanical, Electrical & Intelligent Systems Engineering at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah prepares students for professional engineering careers through high-quality academic programs, practical learning opportunities, and industry-relevant research and innovation.
The Department brings together the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, and intelligent systems, providing students with a strong foundation in engineering principles, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills. Through rigorous coursework, laboratory-based learning, internships, research projects, and senior design experiences, students develop the knowledge and practical competencies required to address contemporary engineering challenges.
The Department offers undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering, as well as graduate programs in Engineering Project Management and Sustainable and Renewable Energy. The Mechanical Engineering program includes a concentration in Industrial Engineering, while the Electrical and Electronics Engineering program includes two strategic concentrations in Robotics and Avionics and Aviation 4.0. These programs and concentrations provide students with specialised pathways in high-demand and future-focused engineering fields and support students in developing expertise across areas including mechanical systems, manufacturing, energy, renewable technologies, power systems, electronics, communications, control systems, robotics, avionics and aviation, automation, and intelligent systems.
Our faculty members bring academic and professional experience from leading universities and industries around the world. They provide students with a supportive learning environment that promotes innovation, critical thinking, teamwork, and lifelong learning.
The Department offers the following programs:
The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program prepares students to design, develop, manufacture, install, and maintain mechanical systems, machinery, components, and tools. Students gain knowledge in areas such as mechanics, machine design, engineering materials, thermal sciences, manufacturing processes, energy, environmental protection, and mechanical systems.
The Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering program provides students with a strong foundation in electrical and electronic systems design, development, and maintenance. The program covers areas including electric circuits, electronics, digital logic, signals and systems, control systems, electric machines, power systems, communications, and wireless networks. Students also have the opportunity to develop advanced knowledge in robotics, avionics and aviation, automation, and intelligent systems.
The graduate programs provide opportunities for professionals and graduates to advance their knowledge in sustainable and renewable energy technologies and the management of complex engineering projects.
The Department provides students with access to laboratories and facilities equipped to support teaching, practical training, senior design projects, and undergraduate research.
Mechanical engineering facilities support learning and applied work in areas such as materials science, mechanical systems, manufacturing, thermal sciences, and energy. These facilities enable students to develop practical skills in the design, analysis, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.
Electrical, electronics, and intelligent systems laboratories support hands-on learning in electric circuits, electronics, MATLAB programming, signals and systems, control systems, digital design, electric machines, analog and digital communication systems, robotics, automation, and smart technologies. The laboratories are also used for senior design projects and undergraduate research, enabling students to design, build, test, and evaluate engineering solutions using modern equipment, measurement devices, electronic components, and simulation software.
