About Ras Al Khaimah
About Ras Al Khaimah
Located at the mouth of the Gulf, Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) was once the historical capital of the region. Translated literally from Arabic to English, ‘Ras Al Khaimah’ means ‘Head of the Tent’.
RAK is an outdoor paradise, with plenty of places for leisure, water sports, mountain climbing and other sports, all within a safe and family-oriented environment. Away from frenzied traffic and rush of the larger cities, but still well-developed, RAK is a quiet but vibrant Emirate. It is an ideal location, for both those who want to relax and those who are more ‘on the go’.
The beauty of Ras Al Khaimah is reflected in its traditions and diverse landscapes — its white sandy beaches, the majestic Hajjar Mountains, the expansive desert and its sands dunes, and the many historical sites from times gone by. RAK may be the only destination where you can go to the beach, mountains and desert within ten minutes driving time!
AURAK thus offers students a high quality education, in an enjoyable and relaxing environment amidst both natural and man-made beauty.
The RAK economy has also witnessed significant development across several sectors. GDP has more than tripled in the last decade. The industrial sector is the main contributor to RAK’s GDP, representing 23% of the total in 2010. Tourism represents another key sector in RAK’s burgeoning economy, with a number of hotel chains choosing to open branches in the area, including Hilton, Rotana, Banyan Tree and Waldorf Astoria.
