Post Graduate Diploma in Education

Program Description

The Master of Education Degree is a thorough scholarly experience that provides educators with excellent learning opportunities in leadership theory and practice, acquiring practical knowledge in research, data-driven decision-making, and real-world leadership.  Upon completing this three-semester program, Graduates will have the necessary skills to become positive change agents capable of leading the continuous improvement of schools and student learning.

The program is designed to provide educational professionals with the opportunity to develop skills needed to become educational leaders, school administrators, cluster managers, educational researchers, employees of governmental agencies, and/or higher education professionals.

The program provides two exit points and is designed as a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) of twenty-four (24) credit hours plus and the Master of Education with an additional nine (9) credit hours. The Master of Education consists of a total of thirty-three (33) credit hours. Students may choose to complete the Post Graduate Diploma only (in two semesters) or continue for a third semester to complete the Master of Education Degree.  All students will take four courses (12 credit hours) the first two semesters, completing the PGDE in one year.  Those desiring to obtain the Master of Education Degree will continue for an additional semester and complete three additional courses (9 credit hours). PGDE completers must evidence a CGPA of 3.0 or higher to progress to the Master of Education program.

The first and second semesters are divided into Fall A/Fall B and Spring A/Spring B allowing students to concentrate on two courses (6 credit hours) for eight weeks and the remaining 2 courses (6 credit hours) the next eight weeks.  Again, students must maintain a 3.0 CGPA to continue into the third semester.  The third semester students will take three courses (9 credit hours) over 16 weeks to complete the Master of Education pending final approval of their research project.

The language of instruction is English.  The courses are prescribed according to a pre-set schedule.  Courses are offered in a face-to-face instructional environment with designated out-of-classroom experiences/activities conducted collaboratively or independently to complement course content and interactions. The program is collaborative with teaching and learning occurring through applied interactive lectures, discussions, case studies, and projects.  A student-centered, active learning, and inquiry-based approach is consistently utilized, and the entire program incorporates reflective learning.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Education is designed to satisfy QF Emirates Level 8 requirements. The Master of Education: Educational Leadership is designed to satisfy QF Emirates Level 9 requirements. Both awards are overseen by the School of Arts and Sciences.

Program Mission

AURAK’s Master of Education and Post Graduate Diploma in Education offer a transformational experience to graduate candidates as they actively apply theory, critical reflection and analysis, and best practice. Graduate students in these programs actively engage in practical diverse discourse on topics related to leadership, change agency, and governance within the educational systems of the UAE and surrounding region. Candidates obtain the requisite knowledge, skills, and tools to meaningfully contribute to positive change in addressing the dynamic challenges that occur when leading educational institutions, communities, faculty, and staff, in both their daily activities and in overall systemic change.

Admissions Requirements

PGDE in Leadership

AURAK requires that a student working on a PGDE Degree:

  1. Have an attested bachelor degree from an accredited institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or higher
  2. Are currently employed with a school, have a minimum of one-year combined teaching experience (student-teaching experience is acceptable), or equivalent
  3. Submit proof of IELTS 6.0/EmSAT 1400 or equivalent
  4. Submit a Personal Statement between 500-700 words describing their motivation to pursue a Graduate-Level studies and how this degree supports their professional and/or personal goals.

Master of Education in Leadership

AURAK requires that a student working on a Master’s Degree:

  1. Have an attested bachelor degree from an accredited institution with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or higher
  2. Are currently employed with a school, have a minimum of one-year combined teaching experience (student-teaching experience is acceptable), or equivalent
  3. Submit proof of IELTS 6.0 / EmSAT 1400 or equivalent
  4. Submit a Personal Statement between 500-700 words describing their motivation to pursue a Graduate-Level studies and how this degree supports their professional and/or personal goals.
