Overview
The Biotechnology Department at AURAK delivers a four-year undergraduate program in Biotechnology with the Bachelor’s of Science in Biotechnology. The curriculum of the program covers different facets of Biotechnology and includes courses such as Genetics, Molecular Biology, General Microbiology, Applied and Industrial Microbiology, General Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Genetic Engineering and Cell Culture Theory and Technology. An important feature of this program is that Biotechnology-based courses have a co-requisite laboratory-based module that emphasizes the technological aspects of the lecture-based course and thus provides learners with the theoretical knowledge and basic practical skills of Biotechnology. The breadth of the courses covered in the program provide the student with a strong foundation in Biotechnology, and the program and course content keep learners informed of recent developments in this rapidly advancing field in the Biological Sciences. The Biotechnology Program at AURAK prepares students for the workplace in the pharmaceutical industry, hospital, or forensics laboratories and in higher education programs. The Biotechnology Department has two Biotechnology laboratories that are fully equipped for carrying out the laboratory-based modules and includes facilities for tissue culture, molecular biology, and microbiology.
