Overview
The civil and infrastructure engineering department in AURAK offers a unique four year undergraduate program that is considered as the first and only program in the United Arab of Emirates and the region that concentrates in infrastructure engineering in addition to civil engineering. This program contains inclusions of sustainable engineering, global issues, multidisciplinary problem solving and system analysis components across its curriculum to solve society’s most pressing problems and to improve the infrastructure services in the built environment. In addition the program closely matches local professional opportunities and the direction of professions in civil and infrastructural engineering in the 21st century. The curriculum of the program covers construction engineering and management, structural and materials engineering, highway and transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering and water and environmental engineering.
The department has many laboratories that were designed and equipped with the latest state of arts instruments provided by Stevin Rock L.L.C. The laboratories are: Advanced Computing Central Facility, Surveying Laboratory, Construction Materials Laboratory, Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory, Fluid and Hydraulic Laboratory and Highway Engineering Laboratory.
Jobs after graduation
The civil and infrastructure engineering program prepares students for the workplace in engineering design, planning, material, consulting and contracting firms. The alumni can work in different firms that are expertise in construction engineering and management, structural and materials engineering, highway and transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering and water and environmental engineering.
Facilities
The Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Department at AURAK has several laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to support teaching and research activities in the main areas of civil engineering.
- Construction material lab: contain equipments for testing characteristics of different construction materials including vicat apparatus for testing cement paste, compressive and tensile strength testing machine for testing mortar and concrete and UTM machine to test tensile strength of steel rods. It also contains all equipments and tools required to prepare, mix, mold, cut, drill and cure concrete.
CIEN 332: Construction Materials lab
- Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics Lab: equipped with a flume, multi-Pump test rig, computer controlled wind tunnel, pipe surge and water hammer apparatus, fluid friction measurements apparatus and a range of smaller fluid mechanics apparatuses.
CIEN 334: Civil Engineering Testing and Materials
- Surveying lab: contains a range of surveying equipment including Total station, Theodolite and Digital level.
CIEN 261: Surveying
- Geotechnical Engineering lab: contains equipment to prepare, mix and test soil samples to determine the strength of soil. Main equipments are direct shear, consolidation and Triaxial testing machines.
