This project presents the reinforced concrete design, detailing and cost estimate of a sports complex having a total built-up area of 6307 ft2 (585.86 m2) and having two stories. The complex comprises of a badminton court, two squash courts, an entrance hall and a toilet block at ground floor, while gymnasium and viewers lobby are located at first floor of the building. Ground floor has a covered are of 5132.59 ft2 (476.78 m2) while first floor comprises of 1174.25 ft2 (109.08 m2).

Reinforced concrete design of the structure has been carried out using an environmentally friendly concrete produced with 20 wt. % replacement of cement with class-F fly ash. For this concrete, a mix design was carried out using the provisions of ACI 211 code. Subsequently cylinder specimens casted with this concrete were tested at 7 and 28 days of concrete age to ascertain the mechanical properties of the concrete for use as input values for modeling and design of the structure. A real geotechnical report was used to fix the soil bearing capacity at 3 ft. depth. Two commercially available software packages named ETABS and SAFE were used for the design and detailing of the structure. Three design options were considered to determine the most economical design solution. These included the traditional slab-beam-column frame, a load bearing masonry wall system and flat slab frame system. All design were carried out according to the provisions of the ACI 318-19 and ASCE 7-11 codes. Based on the outcome of software based structural design of various members, a design optimization process was carried out according to the code guidelines and sound engineering practices. Detailed structural-members-schedules and typical cross sections of slab, beams, columns and footings were prepared to facilitate the implementation of the project on construction site.
Cost estimation of the three design options was carried out based on prevailing market rates. Comparison of the cost estimates of the three design options showed that the load bearing masonry wall option is the most economical of the three solutions. Project planning and work break down structure was prepared using MS project. This project presents an economical, environmentally friendly, and durable design solution for the construction of sports complex. If implemented commercially, the suggested design shall result into reducing the carbon footprints of the construction industry besides providing a state of the art design and construction solution of a sports complex.

This project comprises of the structural design and detailing of a 200 persons mosque to be constructed in Ras Al Khaimah. The single storied structure has a total covered area 4300 ft2 (400 m2) which is estimated to house a maximum of 200 worshippers at a time. The structure of the mosque comprises of a prayer hall, a veranda, ablution area, and a toilet area. A 60 ft (18.28 m) tall minaret is also part of the design of the structure. Architectural design of the mosque embodies four domes of varying sizes in the roof slabs of; payer hall, entrance area, ablution area, and toilet area.

Reinforced concrete-based design of the mosques structure incorporates the use of recycled aggregate concrete produced with 30 wt.% replacement normal aggregate with recycled aggregate. In the structural design and detailing, three design-alternates have been considered, namely; reinforced concrete structure supported by load-bearing masonry walls; reinforced concrete flat slab supported by beam-column frame; and reinforced concrete flat plate supported by reinforced concrete columns. A 4400 liters capacity reinforced concrete overhead water tank has been designed for water storage based on the estimate of peak water consumption. Structural design has been carried out following the design guidelines of American concrete Institute (ACI) code namely ACI 318, design-load provisions of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) namely ASCE-07, and material specifications based on the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM). Structural design and detailing has been carried out using commercially available state of the art software packages namely ETABS and SAFE. Up to 35% of the design verification has been carried using longhand calculations. Detailed bill of quantities (BOQ) for the grey-structure construction have been prepared for the three design-alternates based on the local market rates.

Cost comparison of the three-design alternate options showed that the load-bearing masonry wall option was the economical among the three.

Structural design and detailing of the mosque structure presented in this project offers a sustainable reinforced concrete design option through the use of recycled aggregate concrete. The objective of this effort is to come up with the design and construction of an energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly built infrastructure. The three design-alternates tried in this project provide a choice of the most economical design option. As a whole this project has been an excellent exposure to a holistic reinforced concrete design experience for the group members which also provided an opportunity of applying the design concepts learned in theoretical courses towards a practical design solution of a built-civil-infrastructure.

The growing need for clean, renewable energy is the drive motivating the heavy use of PV panels worldwide as a reliable source of energy. The power produced by PV panels varies based on the weather conditions and the time in a day. Accordingly, it is required to optimize the energy output at all times to increase the efficiency and make the best use of the available resources. This work aims to achieve Maximum Power Tracking for PV panels using machine learning and increase the power generation efficiency. It combines various clustering and machine learning based regression methods and verify the system performance using actually measured 7080 data points.

The system includes various components including a DC-DC converter, PID controller, a PV panel and a machine learning powered reference voltage generator. All of these components require careful design to achieve our objective. In addition to that, the team has specified the suitable PV panel characteristics for the application of maximum power extraction. Furthermore, the theoretical background needed to implement the project, such as clustering data, machine learning, cost analysis, environmental advantages, Maximum Power Point, and the derivations required for the power converter and the PV panel, has also been discussed. MATLAB and Simulink were used to cluster the data and train the model to achieve the objective. Seventy-five percent of the data was used in the training process using MATLAB by different machine learning Regression methods such as SVM, GPR, and Boosted Trees. The remaining 25 percent was used in Simulink for testing the performance of the system. The results include an error analysis when no clustering is used, 2 clusters, 3 clusters and 4 clusters for both K-means and fuzzy C means clustering. As an outcome, we concluded that 2 cluster based K-means gave the lowest error, which means it is the most suitable for our application.

The purpose behind this project is the establishment of a structure that achieves self-sustainability. The construction industry is one of the most harmful industries to the environment as it utilizes many resources such as cement, electricity to water. Therefore, within this green building, generating energy mainly through solar panels will be utilized in order to reduce the amount of electricity used. Such method will provide energy for the complex during the day which should save around 40% of the daily usage of electricity.

Furthermore, the green building will insure the efficient usage of water. As known, water is the most used substance on earth. Therefore, the structure will be equipped with a water treatment system. For instance, waste water filtration will be included to insure reusing waste water in other activities such as watering the soil. Such activities will significantly reduce and usage of water within the green residential building. Moreover, the building will also be equipped with green insulation which uses common recycled materials such as fiber glass. The purpose of using green insulation is to make use of waste and lower the CO2 emissions that come from producing cementitious products. Such implementation will make the insulation not entirely based on blockworks. Furthermore, green land will border the green buildings in order to recycle a portion of the CO2 emissions produced by the different activities held within the buildings. In order to succeed in the completion of this project, multiple designs have to be done both manually and using software design. Afterwards, cost analysis will be done to select the most economical design. Moreover, project management will be done using Microsoft Project software in order to find the duration of typical activities in construction. Final step towards completing this project would be researching about green technology in construction.

Exploiting the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology has become a trend that increasingly covers various fields. NFC relies basically on sending information over radio waves between two compatible devices. An NFC device can take a form of active or passive, while an active NFC device, such as a smartphone, is capable of sending/receiving data along with processing these data, a passive NFC device (such as NFC tags) is capable only of sending data to other active devices without any processing capability. By far, the NFC technology has been common and rapid growing in the contactless payment systems which rely on NFC enabled smartphones to replace traditional payment cards by storing the cards’ information and transmitting the required data to complete payment procedures. In this project, the focus will be on utilizing NFC technology and its security, ease of use, versatility, and fast connectivity features to implement a room locker that can be managed using an NFC enabled smartphone. Another focus of this project will be the integration of Wi-Fi technology that allows monitoring of the locker status and other accessibility parameters through an up-to-date database. During the development of the project, the main purpose will be to explore how embedding such a technology can be feasible to be used in a simple house locker or in a large room management system such as a hotel, and how it would lead to an easier, more doable, and reliable experience for the user. The congestion of the network requires a managerial decision to solve or to minimize the congestion issue. There were many attempts to solve the congestion problem either by avoiding congestion the first place or to minimize it by applying some technique.

This project proposes a technique to minimize or reduce network congestion by adopting Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), in which some of the GSM users are converted to the WiMAX network as a handover between the two systems.

The purpose of this project is acknowledging information about the information theory and how to measure the amount of. Also this project describes the process of channel coding and the type of coding and algorithm used in the source coding like Shannon-Fano algorithm. And the type of codes and algorithm in channel coding for example linear block codes and conventional codes as well as, Viterbi algorithm.

Building Monitoring and Automation system is a wireless system that can be implemented in existing home environments, without any changes in the infrastructure to automate decisions and ensure safety and security of the building. It allows the user to control the home from his/her computer, and assign actions based on time or sensor readings from any device in the Home Automation network. In the computer program, the user can control the actions of the electrical devices in the network based on the sensors sensing surrounding environment.

In this project we build a system that can sense temperature, humidity, fire, gas leakage and break-ins and take real-time local decisions such as turning the air-conditioning on, locking the doors in case of intruders, operating alarms and sending messages to the security informing them of the type of dangers. It also transfers data to a control computer over the Wifi for centralized building monitoring and better control at the scale of the building.

A refrigerator is a machine used daily by human beings in everywhere and it’s a necessity in every home. A new technology that has been recently used and becoming popular is the RFID technology. It has been used in different fields as a detection tool for example. It has been already used in shopping malls to detect stolen clothes. RFID tags can be used to store any sort of information in it that can be read by a reader. RFID tags can come in different sizes and shapes and the information in it can be modified using a programming software.

Our project, products expiry detection will use this technology to make lots of people life easier and can be a perfect solution for many working parents and elderly monitors. The Products Expiry Detector is a reader that can read the products information written in the tag that stuck in the product and send this information to database software. The software will keep track of the expiry dates and notify the users if the products has finished or expired and prepare a shopping list for the user. This project will be more effective in the future because the world marketing plans now are moving toward using the RFID tags in all products.

The purpose of this project is to build a smart water level sensor device that is able to detect and control the level of water; furthermore, through the process of detection and control, this device contributes in saving water. Sensing the level of water alerts the user of only the water consumption in a tank, and thus, it then becomes the responsibility of the user to fill or empty the tank accordingly. In addition, this project aims to build an automation system that is capable of adjusting the state of the water pump in accordance to the level of water present. This circuit achieved automation through sequential logic in the form of implementing a J K flip flop to the integrated design. A seven segment display and a relay are part of this integrated design. The water pump will be turned on at water level one, and off when level seven is reached; furthermore, the water pump will remain in its standing state in levels 2 to 6.

The Emirates highway is an alternative way to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Highway, but away from the city for the heavy trucks, as the heavy trucks are causing distraction to the interior streets’ users and create massive destruction inside the cities. Therefore, the design is supposed to withstand heavy loads. The main problems in most of the highways in the Emirates are their durability, rutting and some other major structural distresses. Thus, the main objective of the project was to evaluate and analyze the design of the pavement proposed by the consultant, and then recommend other alternative designs for the pavement structure of the evaluated highway. The analysis and design showed that the proposed design would fail prematurely. In our project we proposed an alternative design that would perform better and cost less in the long run.
