AURAK Celebrates UAE’s 48th National Day

Students, staff and faculty of the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) along with friends and visitors celebrated the 48th National Day of the United Arab Emirates.
Events held on the campus explored unique Emirati heritage with cultural festivals and delicious traditional cuisine, the chance to sit on a camel decorated in the UAE’s national flag, henna and nail polish for ladies and other activities.
The RAK Police Band, with drums and bagpipes, started the day with their music and a parade around the university campus.
There was a photography exhibition in collaboration with Arts and Sciences School which was held on the lawn in the middle of the campus. In addition, there was also a video contest, a cupcakes competition, traditional costume competition for all female faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The National Day celebrations ended with the AURAK Mini Marathon, a 2-kilometer run.
Mr. Hamad Alhebsi was the host for the National Day celebrations at AURAK, held on 28 November, the final day before the break for the national holiday.
The UAE’s National Day is celebrated on 2nd December every year. The people of UAE salute the father of the Nation, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, on this day.
The seven emirates – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman, and Ras Al Khaimah followed Sheikh Zayed’s lead in establishing the UAE, which formally emerged on the international stage on 2nd December 1971.
UAE National Day has become a celebration of the country’s unity and its people’s rise to prosperity.
