LinkedIn Teaches AURAK Community How to Network, Find Jobs

February 7, 2022,

The Office of Institutional Advancement of the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) facilitated a LinkedIn Awareness Session on Feb 7th, 2022. A representative of LinkedIn presented a workshop to help American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) community use the network to find jobs and make contacts.

Due to the social distancing measures in place to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, AURAK frequently organizes this course, which generally takes place on campus, but this is the second time the presenter has delivered it online.

Mr. Wael Kamal, LinkedIn Senior Account Director, started by giving some basic information on the work-related social media platform. He indicated that 9/10 recruiters use LinkedIn and that almost every professional has an account.

When it comes to looking for a job, the presenter recommended using the alumni tool to connect with your fellow alumni because referrals are the best way to get a job. Users should also set up job alerts. He also recommended using LinkedIn’s content by following recruitment agencies, companies and industries.

Mr. Kamal gave the participants advice on filling in their profiles, including the importance of having a photo on your page and how to make sure it is appropriate.

He said that the top two activities on the platform were checking out other people, in first place, followed by reading content. Looking for jobs is, perhaps surprisingly, only the third most popular activity on LinkedIn.

“AURAK is delighted to collaborate with LinkedIn and organize this amazing Awareness Session. LinkedIn is primarily used for business and this is a place where AURAK community can promote their talents, knowledge, education, and experience, among other things”. Prof. Hassan said.
