A Ugandan delegation visited the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) to see the developing facilities and talk cooperation with AURAK leaders.

Dr. Sam B. Omara, Counselor – Embassy of the Republic of Uganda to the UAE, and Nellie Florence Okulla, Principal Education Officer, Ministry of Education, comprised the Ugandan team.

Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, President of AURAK, and Prof. Stephen Wilhite, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Success and Provost, were among the AURAK officials who welcomed the Ugandan delegation.

Among the issues discussed were the numbers of Ugandan students in the UAE, the development of AURAK and its facilities, scholarships, and the courses that interest Ugandans. Dr. Omara said that the “main focus of the government is to develop capacity in science areas”.

AURAK leaders mentioned the forthcoming courses in Artificial Intelligence, Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Engineering among others. The Provost was keen to stress the practical nature of the courses, saying that “a major focus is hands-on-learning.”

Following the meeting, the Ugandans took a tour of the AURAK campus, where facilities are under development including a new library, and had lunch with the University leadership.
