AURAK Appoints New Dean for School of Arts and Sciences

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has appointed Professor Jyoti Grewal to be the new Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
“It’s an honor to be offered the Dean’s position. The School of Arts and Sciences is poised for greater successes; and I look forward to being an integral part of its future,” said Prof. Grewal. She is a historian and an experienced administrator. She has been serving as interim dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, following her arrival at AURAK in 2019.
“Prof. Jyoti has the energy, commitment, and vision to lead the School of Arts and Sciences in its development and implementation of a strategic plan to complement that of the university,” said Prof. Stephen Wilhite, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Success. “I look forward to working with Prof. Jyoti as she engages the faculty in the school in a transparent and inclusive process of shaping programs and offerings to grow enrollments at the university, while also collaborating with faculty on how to best support their ongoing professional development as scholars and teachers.”
Prof. Grewal gained a Bachelor of Arts from Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi, India (1983), a Master of Arts from Delhi University, India (1985), and a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University, State University of New York, New York, USA (1991). She has taught at Luther College, Decorah, IA, USA and Zayed University, Dubai, UAE. Since 2007, she has worked in university administration and was founding dean of University College at Zayed University.
Her research interests are Gender and Women’s Studies, Ethnic Violence, Intersectionality and Identity Politics. She is the author of the book ‘Betrayed by the State: The Anti-Sikh Pogrom of 1984’ (2007) as well as numerous articles.
