AURAK Celebrates 3rd Alumni Reunion

March 15, 2017,

This weekend, the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) hosted its 3rd alumni reunion, organized by the Department of Career Development, Internships and Alumni Affairs (ICDAA).

A large number of alumni, many of whom were initially taken by surprise by the significant re-development that the campus has seen over the last year, flocked to the event, taking the opportunity to re-connect and catch-up with their fellow AURAK graduates.

Dr. Priti Verma, manager of the ICDAA, welcomed the alumni back to the university, stating, “I am tremendously proud of your accomplishments since leaving AURAK, seeing how you have all grown on a personal and professional level over the last few years. As you continue on your paths, I encourage you to reflect on AURAK’s mission and how it has prepared you to be knowledgeable, thoughtful, creative and responsible individuals.”

She also emphasized the importance of such gatherings in terms of developing a deeper relationship between AURAK and its graduates.

Sara Al Hammadi, a biotechnology major from the class of ’15 who is currently working towards her master’s degree, addressed the audience and alumni, reminiscing on her time as an AURAK student and imploring her fellow graduates to use their skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on society.

The remainder of the evening featured a brief video, showing the, in some cases almost unrecognizable, alumni during their days as fresh-faced undergraduate students. The evening also featured live music, with acoustic versions of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ and ‘Let It Be’ by The Beatles.

Dr. Lee ‘Rusty’ Waller also made sure to thank Mr. Prashanth Mendonca and Mr. Nikolaos Christodoulakis from Qatar Airways, who sponsored the evening. Qatar Airways were also kind of to donate a return air ticket, which was won by one lucky graduate in a raffle.

The evening proved to be an overwhelming success and we hope to see even more alumni return next year.
