AURAK is Everyone’s Type
The American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s (AURAK) Department of Student Life cooperated with the Ministry of Health and Prevention in hosting a blood drive to help the need of various UAE hospitals.
On October 31, 2018, AURAK Student Life and members of the Volunteer Club managed a blood drive from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm in Building G, servicing 41 donors and collecting 18,450 ml of blood and plasma that was sent through the Ministry of Health and Prevention to various hospitals across the UAE depending on the needs of the hospitals and blood types collected by the drive. Vice President of the Volunteer Club, Somaya Mohamed; Secretary, Bushra Barazi; and member, Bdou Aitham, staffed the sign in table for the event. While Ms. Somaya was unable to help through blood donation for this particular drive, she was happy to help in donating her time and plans to donate in the future; Ms. Bushra was very proud to help out in any what that she could.
AURAK student blood donor, Mr. Hassan Al Shami, felt it imperative to participate as a donor, “There are so many people in need that we don’t know about. It is important we reach as many people in need as possible.”
AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, was pleased with the blood drive’s student turnout, “It is astounding to see the great lengths AURAK students are willing to go to meet the needs of their Ras Al Khaimah community. It brings me great pleasure to see how frequently a substantial student group consistently emerges when each and every time their community is in need of them. The passion and sense of duty they possess toward their community is overwhelming.”
