November 10, 2019,

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) held a seminar titled “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Mankind: What is Our Destiny?” which was led by Professor Sardar M. N. Islam, of Victoria University’s Institute for Sustainable Industries & Liveable Cities  in Melbourne, Australia.

There was a lengthy and vigorous discussion of what the definition of artificial intelligence should be. Prof. Sardar said that AI and the human mind work in a similar way.

Artificial intelligence is determining the future of the world and mankind, according to Prof. Sardar. It is central to the survival and progress of human beings, so having a good dialogue is interesting and useful to all, he believes.

The seminar focused on artificial intelligence and game theory – posing the question “what is our future?” It also looked at the opportunities for academic research and the possible business applications of AI.

Discussion of AI’s consequences followed the presentation, with attention focusing on the regulation of the uses of AI technology due to fears about the dangers associated with it.

Prof. Sardar has studied and worked in various countries. He says he adopts a global and humanistic approach in his research and academic work. For 10 years from 2007, he was a professor of business, economics and finance. He has academic experience in teaching, supervision and research and has published across a range of disciplines.
