​The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) hosted the International Conference on Electrical and Computing Technologies and Applications (ICECTA), 2019.

The event was sponsored by IEEE, du, Huawei, RAK Finance Department, and the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (Rakez).

AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, as general chair of ICECTA 2019, made the opening remarks.

Prof. Hassan said, “I’m pleased to welcome such a conference to AURAK. We’re proud to organize and host an event like this with researchers presenting the latest developments in their fields.”

“The conference aims to provide engineers, professionals, academics and researchers with a platform to discuss their current research findings and future research directions,” Dr. Maen Takruri, an AURAK associate professor who chaired the organizing committee for the 2019 version of the event.

The conference included two days of sessions on various themes such as the Internet of Things, signal and image processing, wireless communications and wireless networks, microwave and antennas, machine learning and applications, artificial intelligence, renewable energy and PVs and a student paper contest.

The first keynote speaker on day 1 of the conference was Prof. Deblina Sarkar, Director of MIT Nano-Cybernetic Biotech Research Group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who did a presentation titled Computing Systems: From Green Electronics to Gray Matter. The other was Prof. Josep Miguel Jornet, who is Director of the Terahertz Nano Lab at Northeastern University, Boston, USA. He covered Terahertz Communications: From Nanomaterials to Ultra-broadband Networks.

Day 2 of ICECTA 2019 saw key note speaker Dr. Ayman Elnashar, ICT & Cloud Technology Planning, ICT & Cloud, DU – Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, PJSC, who talked about 5G Evolution in the UAE. Ms. Xaiofang He, Senior manager of Wireless Marketing Department, Middle East Region, from the Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, presented on 5G from the commercialization perspective. In the first part of her talk she dealt with the progress of the 5G industry and in the second she looked at 5G solutions provided by Huawei and the new opportunities that 5G brings.

Day 3 of the conference was given over the socializing and networking opportunities for the participants.
