AURAK Raises AED 100,000 for Cancer Patients
April 25, 2016,
The Department of Biotechnology at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) hosted a charity fundraiser at the weekend, successfully raising over 100,000 AED, all of which will go towards treating children who are suffering from cancer.
The money was raised via ticket sales, as well as through generous donations from RAK Medical and Health Sciences University and RAK Police. All of the proceedings have been donated to the Al Jalila Foundation’s Omniyat Dania program, which focuses on cancer in children. All of the money donated to the program, which was founded by H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is invested in medical treatment and research of childhood cancer in the UAE.
The day-long event saw a number of activities take place on the University campus, such a bubble football, target-shooting and face painting. A number of local restaurants participated and provided food, while local celebrities, such as Khulood Al Maleh and Hamad Al Shehhi, also came in support of the cause.
Advisor of the Biotechnology Club, who organized the event, Dr. Rachel Matar, stated, “I would like to say that once again Prof. Hassan set the tone for the year by helping us run a successful fundraiser event. We appreciated your absolute attention to detail in AURAK, your continuous support to the Biotechnology Dept. and the entire university as a whole.”
