Dr. Khaleda Colloquium on Emirati Culture

In the latest faculty colloquium hosted by the School of Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Khaleda Al Mansoori, chair of the Languages and Literature Department within the School of Arts and Sciences, gave a talk titled ‘Emirati Culture and Dialect’.
The lecture was aimed at non-native speakers of Arabic, focusing on Emirati Arabic and the differences between the pronunciation and vocabulary used in Abu Dhabi, the Northern Emirates and the east coast.
Dr. Khaleda, a Ras Al Khaimah native, also gave insight into the history of the emirate and the origin of its name. She also discussed other aspects of Emirati culture, such as dress, and how contemporary attitudes in the region differ from those of the past.
