AURAK Stages 6th Annual Mini-marathon

November 28, 2016,

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has hosted its 6th annual mini-marathon as part of its UAE National Day celebrations.

The day-long program began with a performance from the Ras Al Khaimah Police band and a horse-riding show in front of the university’s Building G, and also featured performances and traditional dances from local elementary schools.

Before opening the UAE village, adorned with traditional items and serving Emirati cuisine, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, AURAK president, addressed the crowd, reflecting on how the UAE has advanced in its 45 years of independence.

“When this country was established, we only had 40 citizens who held a bachelor’s degree. Now, we have several universities across the country, including AURAK, which is contributing significantly to this nation’s development”, stated Prof. Al Alkim.

The mini-marathon, beginning in the afternoon, took place on the AURAK campus this year, and included hundreds of participants from over 20 high schools and universities across the seven emirates. The winners, across six categories, were presented with trophies and gifts at the conclusion of the event.

Speaking of the event’s success, Prof. Al Alkim commented on the importance of AURAK being actively engaged in the community. “Each passing year we further confirm our status as a hub for the Ras Al Khaimah community and beyond. These events are great, because they bring everyone together and it develops a real community spirit. We have also significantly developed our campus this year, so this was an opportunity to showcase our expansion to the general public.”
