Dr. Eka Sediadi has more than twenty five years of experience in education related to the theory, method, scientific knowledge-based approach and their implementation to architecture design and the site-planning process. Since 2000 he has continued his interest, and focuses on the implementation of sustainable green environmental architecture and the landscape design approach and its green assessment.

He completed his Ph.D. study supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD – Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) in 1996 at the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Sciences at the Leibniz University of Hanover, Hanover, Germany. His Ph.D. research was the implementation and integration of renewable energy in architecture design and site analysis under the hot humid tropical climate condition of Indonesia as a basic consideration to reduce the negative effect of climate change and the global warming problem. It is also an effort to reduce the dependency on conventional energy sources.

His postdoctoral research in 2001 in the Technical University Darmstadt, Germany, simulated the building and outdoor landscape shadow effect based on the local tropical sun path using building models and the available sun track machine. He is also experienced in urban and landscape design projects in Indonesia. The best part of his urban planning and urban design project is the Bagusa new town development in West Irian (Papua) island in east Indonesia and some landscape and public transportation building projects in Jakarta, Indonesia. Until now most of his research relates to sustainable architecture, landscape architecture, site planning, public housing, natural daylighting and natural ventilation as well as the overall performance of renewable energy in buildings.

In 2010, in relation to his interest in sustainable green architecture, he joined the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) in Jakarta, Indonesia and registered as a Greenship building design assessor, lecturer, and a tutor of Greenship’s professional course (Greenship is the Indonesian green building assessment tool approved by the World Green Building Council/WGBC). Beside GBCI he is also registered, since 2011, as a professional facilitator of Green Building Index (GBI), Malaysia’s green building assessment tool. Furthermore he has been a member of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) since 1996, president of the Sustainable Environment and Architecture (SENVAR) ASEAN Regional Environment and Architecture Research Society since 2007, as well as regular member of Indonesian architect Institute (IAI).

He has been invited as keynote speaker to two international conferences in Indonesia and Malaysia in 2005. His book “The Graphic Communication in Architecture and Landscape” (Rustam Hakim; Eka Sediadi Rasyad) is one of referenced books in the landscape education and landscape projects in Indonesia. His research interest is the implementation of sustainable climate-based green architecture and landscape design approach to support the world’s sustainable development process. Dr. Eka Sediadi believes that the evidence-based sustainable green architecture and landscape design approach will be an important education design method to support the world’s sustainable developments.
