Amjad Omar is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK). He received his Ph.D. in 1993 in Electrical Engineering/Electromagnetics from the University of Waterloo in Canada. He was promoted to Full Professor in Electrical Engineering in January 2014.  He started his career as a researcher at the Communications Research Center in Ottawa where he worked for 2 years (1993-1994) on the simulation and testing of monolithic microwave integrated circuits.  He then worked at several universities in Jordan, UAE, and KSA.  He was the chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department of King Faisal University for 5 years (2010-2015) where he led his team into achieving the ABET accreditation for 6 years.  He was also the chairman of the Communications Engineering Department at Yarmouk University for 2 years (2004-2006) where he started the master’s program in Wireless Communications, and the Chairman of the newly established Electrical Engineering Department at the Hashemite University (2001).  He was a member of the UAE University team who achieved the ABET accreditation for the first time in UAE in 2000.  His research interests include the design and analysis of microwave and millimeter wave integrated circuits, printed antennas, computational electromagnetics, microwave NDT for oil and gas, and the biological effects of EM radiation on humans. He authored and coauthored around 70 publications in international journals (ISI/Scopus) and conference proceedings.  He is a senior member of IEEE and an active reviewer for several intentional journals.  He is the Guest Editor of the Special Issue on “Advances in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: Systems and Applications” in the International Journal of Embedded Systems (Scopus Elsevier), 2017.  He was the technical program committee chair of the “5th International Conference on Electronic Devices, Systems, and Applications ICEDSA-2016” (in Dec. 2016) and the Chair of the Scientific Committee of “Energy and Water in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries”, in April 2016.  He has chaired and organized several other conferences and workshops.
