Agriculture Field Day Held at RAKRIC

October 10, 2019,

The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change held an agriculture field day at RAK Research and Innovation Center (RAKRIC).

RAKRIC hosted a visit by 10 researchers and outlined the new concept of greenhouses designed and implemented by ICARDA in collaboration with RAKRIC.

The visit started with a presentation by Dr. Azaiez Ouled Belgacem, who shared information about the science of agriculture, the history of several projects and solutions for many problems expected with greenhouses in the GCC region. In addition, Dr. Arish introduced the ICARDA Greenhouse concept along with Eng. Ahmad’s explanation of the Solar Panel PV system that was implemented by RAKRIC. The visit ended with a tour around the greenhouse and PV system.

The researchers showed their interest in the PV system as well as further research work that is expected to be done on the greenhouse.

A photovoltaic (PV) system is designed to supply usable power by means of photovoltaics, the conversion of light into electricity using semiconducting materials.

RAK Research and Innovation center is a state-of-the-art R&D center which develops sustainable systems related to solar technology. The center is intended to act as a bridge between academics and industry’s development of new products. RAKRIC also works in the field of consultancy, performance tests, technology integration, energy auditing, system development and technology transfer to industry.
