Counseling Services

 

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), through the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling, offers counseling services for students enrolled in 3 or more credit hours.  These services include academic counseling, individual counseling, the loan of self-help DVDs and workshops.  Details regarding each of these services are provided below.

 

Academic Recovery Programs

American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) through the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling offers assistance to students experiencing academic difficulties.  Students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of less than 2.0 are placed on academic probation.  The Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling provides support to assist students in improving their Grade Point Average (GPA).

Academic Counseling

Students with concerns regarding academic matters may visit the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling. To help them address these concerns, the Department directs students to the appropriate individual, office, department, and/or administrator.

Individual Counseling

The Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling provides counseling services for students requiring assistance with a variety of issues. All counseling services are free and confidential. Students are given the opportunity to discuss matters which may be causing them concern or stress. The objective of counseling services is to provide needed assistance and support so students can reach their highest potential personally and academically. When needed, the counselor also offers referral services to qualified and experienced professionals or organizations. Students may make requests for counseling services by contacting the Department of Counseling, Testing, and Disability Services located in Building B.  All services will be provided in a confidential, private setting on the AURAK campus.

Self-Help Videos

Students may select from the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling’ DVD Library.  Students are asked to return all DVDs in timely fashion so that others may also benefit from them.  Utilization of DVDs is without cost.  The DVD Library of the Department of Academic Recovery Programs and Counseling currently contains the following DVDs:
