Being a roommate and neighbor can be one of the most important experiences a residential student can have. How you approach this new experience, what you invest in it, what you expect from it, and what you learn from it are equally important steps in the success of any roommate relationship. Residents shall respect the rights of their neighbors and roommates at all times. All residents have the following:
Rights:
- The right to read and study free from unreasonable noise and other disturbances in their rooms.
- The right to sleep without disturbance from noise, roommate(s), and visitor.
- The right to expect that a roommate will respect your personal belonging.
- The right to live in a safe, clean, drug and alcohol-free environment.
- The right of free access to your room, the common room, and common facilities without pressure from a roommate.
- The right to expect proper decorum and behavior from others in the common area.
- The right to personal privacy.
- The right to be free from fear, intimidation, physical and/or emotional harm.
- The right to expect reasonable cooperation in using common use items and in adhering to agree upon procedure.
Responsibilities:
Residents have the:
- Responsibility not to smoke in the Residential Halls and outside within the Campus.
- Responsibility to prevent unreasonable noise, undue interference, and other distractions which may interfere with a roommate’s ability to study and enjoy his/her privacy.
- Responsibility to permit a roommate to sleep without undue disturbance.
- Responsibility to respect a roommate’s personal belongings.
- Responsibility to assist in maintaining a safe, clean, drug and alcohol free living environment.
- Responsibility to allow a roommate free access to room and facilities, without pressure and to keep the room clean.
- Responsibility to respect a roommate’s personal privacy.
- Responsibility to communicate and work through conflicts and concerns. Residence staff members are available to assist in settling conflicts.
- Responsibility not to resort to hazing/ ragging, intimidation, physical and/or emotional harm.
- Responsibility to demonstrate reasonable cooperation in using  common items and in adhering to agree upon procedures.
- All residents must pay the rental charges prior to occupying the  accommodation and show the receipt to Resident Administrator.
