Middle East Solar Decathlon Competition
AURAK’s team of over 60 faculty and students from different disciplines comes together to participate in the Solar Decathlon Competition. It engages students nationally and internationally to develop the skills and knowledge to design, build and run a sustainable house, making them the next generation of sustainability experts. AURAK’s team is developing a negative energy house by designing solar-powered, ultra-efficient structure that integrates a number of sustainability concepts in accordance with the rules and requirements of the competition. The sustainable house also incorporates the region’s socio-cultural values, as well as climatic needs, using the traditional architectural elements that were used to overcome the climatic hardships in the past.

UAE Hackathon
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) organized the UAE Hackathon 2020 under the theme ‘Data for Happiness & Well-Being’. AURAK hosted the Ras Al Khaimah part of UAE Hackathon 2020 from 16 to 18 Feb 2020 during UAE Innovation Month.
The Hackathon is a competitive event in which programmers, developers, designers, project managers, and innovative thinkers collaborate and solve pre-defined problems or challenges. Participants use open data as a tool to identify solutions based on specific themes and challenges listed for the Hackathon. The event helps to crowd-source solutions for issues faced by the organizers, including environmental and sustainability issues, which helps to drive innovation among participants, employees and organizations.
Thirty-six teams in total participated in the event, including three from AURAK.
