Dr. Eman Assi

Dr. Eman Assi is an Associate Professor of Architecture in the School of Engineering. She has also taught both at the University of a Sharjah, UAE, and An-Najah National University in Palestine, and works as consultant in projects related to documentation, conservation, and management of cultural heritage. At present, Dr. Assi is a member of ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Historic Towns CIVVIH and a member of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Cultural Routes CIIC, and recently she joined the ISC 20th. In 2014, her book on traditional houses of Dubai in both English and Arabic received an award from the Sultan bin Salman Award of Cultural Heritage. In 2006 Dr. Eman joined the Department of Architecture and Antiquities of Dubai Municipality as a cultural heritage expert where she manages the development of the Dubai Historic Area Project. She is responsible for conducting many workshops and chairing the scientific committee of the third and fourth international architectural conservation conference 2012 and 2015

Dr. Eman Assi did her post doctorate work at the University of Berkeley at California and UCLA as a Fulbright Visiting Professor in the Center of Middle East Studies in 2003 – 2004. She earned her Doctorate in 1998 from Edinburgh College of Art, her Masters of Science in Urban Design from Pratt Institute, NY, 1990, and her Bachelor’s of Science in Architecture Engineering in 1982 from the Jordan University of Jordan in Amman.
