Dr. Rawad Hodeify
Department Chair / Associate Professor – Medical Biotechnology
Dr. Rawad Hodeify is an Associate Professor of Medical Biotechnology at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah and the Chair of the Biotechnology Department. He earned his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences (Cell and Molecular Biology Track) from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), USA in 2011. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Internal Medicine, UAMS, USA between 2011-2013. In 2013, Dr Hodeify joined Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar as Post-Doctoral Research Associate till 2017. Dr. Hodeify has also completed a postgraduate degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (PGP-AIML) from University of Texas at Austin in 2022. With a broad background in interdisciplinary biomedical sciences, specifically molecular and cellular biology, Dr. Hodeify research portfolio focuses on three themes: (1) the crosstalk between cell cycle, cell death, and calcium signaling during cellular pathology particularly in kidney injury and cancer, (2) regulation of trafficking of membrane proteins, precisely, store-operated calcium channel (Orai1) and sodium potassium pump, (3) applying AI and machine learning models for predicting cellular fate, disease progression, and early diagnosis.
