Dr. Shadi Al Shidrawi

Dr. Shadi Yacoub Al-Shidrawi is an Assistant Professor of English at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), holding a Ph.D. in English Literature, Summa Cum Laude. A dedicated scholar, he pioneers “post-truthism,” a novel approach to literary criticism exploring the intersections of truth, narrative, and societal discourse in classic and contemporary literature. His research enhances the understanding of literary texts through innovative theoretical frameworks and interdisciplinary perspectives, with his doctoral work focusing on post-truth in twentieth-century English literature.

Beyond literature, his scholarly interests encompass higher education pedagogy, writing center studies, and international student success; particularly, how hybrid and data-informed writing support programs improve engagement, learning outcomes, and institutional growth. His recent co-authored publication in the Journal of International Students (Q2, Education) spotlights AURAK’s leadership in innovative academic practices. The study introduces a hybrid writing support model based on four years of student satisfaction data, revealing transformative impacts on writing development and student achievement across the UAE’s higher education landscape.

At AURAK, Dr. Al‑Shidrawi coordinates the Writing Center and teaches ENGL‑101 Composition, ENGL‑200 Advanced Composition through English Literature, Public Speaking, and ESP. He also chairs the School of Arts and Sciences’ Teaching and Learning Committee and serves on multiple institutional bodies, including the QEP Steering and Student Success Committees (2023–2025), the Curriculum Committee, and as Faculty Senate Instructors’ Representative (AY 2024–2025). His contributions include delivering professional development sessions, organizing Writing Center workshops, and representing AURAK at TESOL Arabia.

Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Al‑Shidrawi is an official debate judge registered on the Tabby Cat platform, actively supporting academic debate initiatives and communication excellence. He is also the founder and Faculty Advisor of the AURAK Debate Club, where he mentors students in critical thinking, rhetorical analysis, and public speaking. Through his leadership, the club fosters intellectual engagement, confidence, and analytical rigor among AURAK’s diverse student body.

With over twenty‑eight years of higher education experience across the Middle East, Dr. Al‑Shidrawi has established himself as a passionate educator, researcher, and academic leader dedicated to advancing literary scholarship and transformative pedagogy in UAE higher education.
