Overview
The Master of Education in Educational Leadership Degree is a thorough scholarly experience that provides Teacher-Practitioners excellent learning opportunities in Leadership theory and practice. Lasting four semesters, the degree prepares the Teacher-Practitioners with substantial knowledge and skills to explore actual leadership prospects. As they learn and study together in the Program, the cohorts create a common goal of lifelong learning and reflective advancement of Educational Leadership in the country. Graduates will have the necessary skills and ability to become positive change agents who can substantially impact the continuous improvement of schools and student learning based on data informed leadership, research, assessment, and the implementation of best practice.

Program Educational Objectives
Graduates of the Master of Education degree are expected to:
- Assess highly specialized knowledge of leadership theories and/or methodologies as the basis for original thinking, encompassing reflective practice and ethical processes of a detailed body of knowledge of recent developments in the field of educational leadership;
- Evaluate the specialized and advanced problem-solving skills required in educational leadership, research and analysis, while utilizing specialist communication and technology skills to present, explain and/or critique highly complex matters;
- Construct a comprehensive, internalized, personal worldview, while accepting responsibility to society, and the sociocultural norms and relationships;
- Take responsibility for leading strategic performance and development of professional teams, and self, in learning contexts that are complex and may require new strategic approaches within the ethical boundaries of educational leadership;
- Critically reflect, and actively choose to enhance, leadership skills in the field of Education to contribute to, and implement, ethical leadership standards that advances professional knowledge and practice; and
- Lead and participate in developing academic settings, and where education meets industry, demonstrating best practice in leadership.

Over two academic years, or four semesters, students will acquire pertinent knowledge and skills required for success in leadership. These skills are taught in a purposefully sequenced designed to ensure students are mastering background knowledge as they progress into more advanced coursework and complex concepts.
The Master of Education in Leadership requires the completion of 33 credit hours across the following key areas of study:
- Leadership
- Budgeting and Resource Management
- Organizational Change
- Inclusivity and Group Dynamics
- Data-Driven Decision-Making
- Educational Psychology
- Educational Policy
- Applied Research for the Real World
These topics include critical areas of knowledge for educational leaders in the 21st century. Students in AURAK’s Master of Education program apply acquired knowledge and developing skills in real-world scenarios, engaging in authentic assessment. As such, graduates of this program report impressive gains in career advancement, research authorship, and advanced study, with multiple students transitioning into doctoral programs in the UAE and around the globe.
Core Courses
First Semester
This course examines historical, philosophical, social, and psychological foundations of education. Students will explore the nature of teaching and learning as well as UAE education policy. Remedial Course Only.
Leadership Courses
First Semester
This course provides students with a broad overview of school finance, budgeting, and the ways in which resources are allocated. Students develop an understanding of the economic, social, and legal principles that inform how schools fund day-to-day operations.
In this course students explore the governance of schools and the building of constructive relationships between schools and communities from socio-economical and sociological perspectives grounded in educational research.
Prerequisite(s): EDUC 511
This field-based course provides students with the tools needed to undertake data collection and analysis in real-world settings. Throughout the duration of this course, students will undertake data collection and analysis for their IRB-approved research project. *Thesis Research Course II*
This course focuses on the role of research in the work of school leaders; ways leaders use research to identify opportunities for improvement and change; relationship between theory, research, and practice; role of research and benchmarking in school improvement; and strategies for change in education.
Prerequisite(s): EDUC 680
This research capstone prepares students in the Master of Education program to finalize their original research for submission to an academic journal. This course is designed to enable students with requisite skills in disseminating research.

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah, located at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah Road, Ras al Khaimah, UAE, PO Box: 10021, is officially Licensed from 1 August 2009 to 15 September 2026 by the Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates to operate in the domain of Higher Education.
Degree Requirements
Barring any interruption to their study, the Master of Education is designed to be completed in four semesters, or two years. Students who withdraw or take a leave of absence from the program must meet requirements for returning that are outlined in the American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s Catalog.
Students must meet specific standards to progress and do so within the maximum time allowed to complete the program; these standards and time allotment are also detailed in the Catalog. If a degree is not completed within a period of six years all coursework in the degree may be re-evaluated for its current relevance.
The following program requirements must be met for degree completion:
- Successful completion of the 33 credit hours, across 11 courses, identified below
- Maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.00 or higher throughout the program
- Successful submission of an original research thesis
- Successful participation defense of an original research thesis
Admission Requirements
Master of Education : Educational Leadership
- An earned Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent in the applicant’s undergraduate degree program.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience of teaching or equivalent work experience is required.
- Successful personal interview with M.Ed. program faculty.
