The AURAK Arts Society yesterday organized a trip to Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, giving students, faculty and staff an opportunity to explore the city’s contemporary art scene.

Attendees utilized their time in at Alserkal Avenue to visit the area’s numerous warehouses, galleries, exhibitions and workspaces. The visit included a talk with the management of Tech Arc, a start-up which provides an environment designed to stimulate creativity, as well as space, equipment and machinery for students to work on their projects.

Prof. Kamal Abdel-Malek, who attended the trip, highlighted, “This type of trip is important for our students. It is good to get them out of the classroom every once and a while, so they see what possibilities are open to them. It really adds to the overall university experience. I am also pleased to see that these students are from a range of disciplines, from engineering to biotechnology.”

The Arts Society’s Yara Al Chouhuf stated that she hopes to organize further trips and activities in the future.
