AURAK and Indian Communities Host Fourth International Day of Yoga

The Fourth International Day of Yoga was hosted under the combined efforts of the American University of Ras Al Khaimah and Indian Communities with the support from the Consul General of India, Dubai to encourage the community of Ras Al Khaimah to incorporate physical activity into their daily lifestyle.

AURAK representatives, Prof. Steven Zani, Dean of the Office of Academic Support Services and Ms. Reema Abu Hilal, Manager of the Department of Student Life received guests Colonel Fahad Abdullah Juma of RAK Police and guest of honor, His Excellency, Shri Vipul, Consul General of India, Dubai, for The Fourth International Day of Yoga.

The event began with the presentation of AURAK plaques by Prof. Steven and Ms. Reema to the Colonel Fahad and His Excellency, Shri Vipul, in appreciation of their support for the event.  The representatives then progressed to the AURAK football field where His Excellency addressed 750 yoga participants from the Ras Al Khaimah community and thanked AURAK for their participation in hosting the event. He reciprocated his gratitude for the university’s efforts in hosting the yoga session by bestowing AURAK representatives with trophies.  Ms. Reema addressed the crowd over the importance of incorporating yoga into their daily life, and then the participants lit a symbolic lamp that began a one-hour yoga session lead by Art of Living RAK.

The event was sponsored by Indian People Forum, RAK Medical University, Al Marai RAK, ART of Living RAK, Indian Public School Alfa Public School, SEWA, RAK Ceramics, and Radio Asia.  This was the third year AURAK has hosted this annual event.

AURAK President, Prof. Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, was pleased with the collaboration to serve the community in this function.  He stressed the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, “It is imperative that the university not only develop students that are sound of mind, but are sound of body as well.  The advancement of the Ras Al Khaimah community is dependent on both the physical and intellectual well-being of its people.  It is through events like The International Day of Yoga that we can encourage a more physically fit society.”
