At the Bedouin Oasis Camp outside of Ras Al Khaimah, an AURAK community event that included faculty, staff and students raised money for two local charities: RAK Autism Center and the Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Center. A total of AED 1,250 was raised and will be divided between the two non-profit organizations.

AURAK study abroad students Devin Lightner and Rushod Weathersbee organized the event with help from the Office of International Programs. “The Bedouin Camp experience was an eye opener for me, being that I grew up in the city all of my life,” said Rushod Weathersbee, a study abroad student from Lincoln University in the U.S. majoring in Mass Communication.

“Devon and Rushod have enjoyed their time at AURAK as study abroad students for the spring term. They wanted to give back to the university by organizing some type of year-end bash that would raise money for charity. The 1st Annual Bedouin Camp Dinner/Fundraiser was the result,” said Heather McGann, Manager, Office of International Programs.

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) is an independent co-education institution of Higher Education that provides an integrated American-style, undergraduate and graduate education with a strong focus on local indigenous culture. The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research accredit all of AURAK’s programs.
