“The first wealth is health.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

The survival of a society is dependent on its members maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and there are several key factors necessary for keeping that lifestyle such as exercising, eating right, getting enough sleep, and staying away from bad habits such as smoking cigarettes. The AURAK Biotechnology Club wanted to create awareness among its fellow classmates of the importance of making healthy decisions concerning their diets, so in the classroom halls of Buildings G and B, they set up tables covered with various healthy foods from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Instead of choosing to spend money to buy candy out of the vending machines, the students had the option of grabbing a sandwich, pastry, or fruit cup and a milk from their table free of charge.

“It is important to maintain a healthy diet in order to have a healthy body and to reduce the chances of developing diseases,” stated Biotechnology Club Vice President, Samar Abuhatab.

However, making one healthy food choice isn’t enough; in order for it to become a lifestyle, one must make that healthy food decision repeatedly. The Biotechnology Club hopes that students will continue to make multiple healthy food choices in their future to create that healthy lifestyle so that they can better serve the community.

AURAK President, Prof. Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, was gratified with the initiative the Biotechnology Club took in organizing this event in that it illustrates the true altruism that AURAK instills in its students. He also believes the students must be in healthy physical condition in order to develop strong minds and focus on their course work so that they can better serve the community in the future.
