AURAK Hosts Lecture on the World Economy

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s (AURAK) has hosted a lecture on the economic media and its importance in today’s world. The lecture, which was hosted by CNBC Arabiya regulars, Amro Zakaria and Hafeeda Al Bashari, covered in depth the role of the economic media, how to present economic data to viewers in a lucid manner, and the effect economic news can have on viewers.

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s (AURAK) has hosted a lecture on the economic media and its importance in today’s world.

The lecture, which was hosted by CNBC Arabiya regulars, Amro Zakaria and Hafeeda Al Bashari, covered in depth the role of the economic media, how to present economic data to viewers in a lucid manner, and the effect economic news can have on viewers. Zakaria, president of the World Wide Markets Company and CEO of the Market Trader Academy, used recent examples such as Brexit, to highlight the interdependence of the world’s financial markets and how they interact with one another.

Al Bashari, a CNBC journalist specializing in economics and world markets, also underlined the changes that journalism has undergone with the rise of social media, and the characteristics of a successful journalist. This segment was of particular interest to the students from AURAK’s mass communication program who were in attendance, recording lecture using equipment from the university’s media lab.

The session was also attended by students and lecturers from the university’s School of Business, who had the opportunity to interact with the guest speakers, participating in a question and answer session, and learning more about the industry.

Prof. Abdullah Alhumoud, dean of the School of Business, praised the initiative, confirming that the school aims to host similar events in the future.

AURAK’s School of Business currently offers five bachelor’s programs in accounting, business administration, finance, human resource management, and marketing, as well as MBA and executive MBA programs.
