AURAK participates in First RAK Conference on CSR and Sustainability

Professor Hassan Hamdan Alalkim, President of American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) underlined the importance of finding new and permanent alternative sources of energy to reduce the high levels of pollution experienced by most industrialized countries and cities around the world, and urged the engagement of universities’ research and development centers and industry sector, to find suitable solutions.

Professor Hassan Hamdan Alalkim, President of American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) underlined the importance of finding new and permanent alternative sources of energy to reduce the high levels of pollution experienced by most industrialized countries and cities around the world, and urged the engagement of universities’ research and development centers and industry sector, to find suitable solutions.

Prof. Alalkim said the university fully supports Ras Al Khaimah authorities’ strategy of social responsibility through the RAK Research and Innovation Center, which is engaged in exploring appropriate solutions for preventing pollution and finding alternative sources of clean energy.

Prof. Alalkim made this remarks in a keynote address at the First Ras Al Khaimah Conference on CSR and and Sustainability, which began yesterday in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Department of Economic Development in Ras Al Khaimah, to discuss various concepts of social responsibility from diverse perspectives. The conference highlighted the main challenges and discussed best practices on sustainability of the business sectors in Ras Al Khaimah, through CSR experts.

The conference included four interactive sessions which looked at the reality of corporate social responsibility, best practices, partnership and interaction with the various stake holder, and relationship between social responsibility and sustainability. The list of prominent speakers included Professor Hassan Hamdan Alalkim, President of AURAK, Lt. Col. Abdullah Rashid Fadel Al Mazrui, Director of Community Police Department in Ras Al Khaimah, Peter Fort, Executive Director, Commission Free Zone Ras Al Khaimah, in addition to speakers from Du, and different companies.

Among those who attended from AURAK were Prof. John Ryder; the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, and a number of representatives from the academic and administrative bodies and university students.
