AURAK Professor Receives American Society for Microbiology Fellowship
Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Chair of the Department of Biotechnology at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, delivered a keynote lecture at the 10th Biennial International Conference organized by Pakistan Society for Microbiology at the University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan followed by serving as resource person for the Hands on Training Workshop on “Advanced Diagnostic Techniques” & Symposium on “Developing Scientific Writing Skills”.
Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Chair of the Department of Biotechnology at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, delivered a keynote lecture at the 10th Biennial International Conference organized by Pakistan Society for Microbiology at the University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan followed by serving as resource person for the Hands on Training Workshop on “Advanced Diagnostic Techniques” & Symposium on “Developing Scientific Writing Skills”.
The American Society for Microbiology awarded a fellowship to Dr. Mukhtar for his participation in these science and technology relevant meetings. The organizers, Prof. Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri and Dr Abida Rao, thanked the American University of Ras Al Khaimah towards facilitating Dr. Mukhtar’s participation. Major support for both these events was provided by Prof. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, a renowned microbiologist in Pakistan, also serving international ambassador for the ASM in Pakistan.
In his lecture at the Microbiology conference, Professor Mukhtar described about the viral infections and their control through various public health measures. He stressed on the importance of science literacy relevant to viral infections and other infectious diseases. Highlighting the universal concept “Prevention in better than cure,” he said several infectious diseases including viral diseases can be curtailed if proper public health measures are adopted.
Dr. Mukhtar mentioned that due to global climatic changes viral infections have been changing their pathogenesis and so is the emerging viral infection. As it is impossible to have viral infections free world, so we have to keep the guards armed against viral diseases with appropriate preventive measure. Prof. Mukhtar also stressed on the establishment of a unified Vaccine Research Center in the Muslim world, certifying vaccines products are free from any constituents that contravene Islamic social and cultural values.
In Islamabad, at the Nuclear Medicine Oncology Radiotherapy Institute (NORI), Professor Mukhtar trained a group of clinicians and scientists about personal biosafety measures while handling patients having highly infectious viral diseases. He also stressed on the importance of publishing clinical research data that helps fellow clinicians as well as scientists in the region as well as all across the globe to learn from each other experience. Professor Mukhtar’s lecture on Scientific Writing Skills provided insight into publishing biological and clinical findings in high impact factor journals.
