The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) signed a deal with the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) to train students in digitally documenting historic places.

The agreement concerns teaching modern digital documentation techniques for use in a field school. ICCROM will train fourth-year architecture students in modern techniques for digital documentation for their project in a historic area of the Ras Al Khaimah emirate and AURAK will support this.

AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, and Dr. Zaki Aslan of ICCROM-Sharjah signed the memorandum of understanding. Professor Hassan said Ras Al Khaimah has a lot of historic places and documenting local history is one of the services that AURAK provides to society.

ICCROM is an intergovernmental organization created by UNESCO in 1956 in Rome, Italy. It is involved with the conservation of movable and immovable heritage around the world. It has an office in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.

AURAK is a nonprofit, government-owned institution of higher education which provides the local, regional and international communities with a North American-style education integrated with Arab customs and traditions. AURAK is licensed by the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates and has been accredited in the United States of America by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) since December 2018. AURAK offers a total of 22 accredited undergraduate and graduate programs across a wide range of disciplines.
