Dr. Nageswara Rao Lakkimsetty is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, School of Engineering & Computing, at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), UAE. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (2013), M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering (2002), and B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering (2000) from institutions in India, including Sri Venkateswara University and the University of Madras. With more than 24 years of professional experience, including over 16 years of research experience, he has developed a distinguished academic career in Chemical engineering and related interdisciplinary fields.
Prior to joining AURAK, Dr. Rao served at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, from 2014 to 2023 in the Chemical Engineering program, Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering. He served as Program Manager for the MSc in Chemical Process Engineering from 2017 to 2023, in addition to undertaking teaching, research, academic leadership, and program-development responsibilities. Earlier, he held several academic positions, including Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Senior Lecturer, and Lecturer, at RVR & JC College of Engineering (Autonomous), India, from 2002 to 2014.
Dr. Rao's research interests include advanced separation processes, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), nanotechnology-based wastewater treatment, environmental engineering, membrane technologies, biomass valorization, carbon management, and sustainable energy and environmental technologies. He has authored 165+ research publications, contributed 25 book chapters, presented his research at approximately 150+ national and international conferences, and holds 6 patents. He has supervised 150+ undergraduate students and 22 master's theses and actively contributes as a reviewer for reputed international journals. He is a Senior Member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and a life member of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), Institution of Engineers (India), and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). His academic and research activities focus on developing innovative, sustainable, and industry-relevant engineering solutions for contemporary challenges in water, energy, environmental protection, and resource management. His emerging research interests include artificial intelligence and machine learning for process optimization, sustainable energy, and innovative environmental technologies.
