Prof. Mohammed Omari

Professor Mohammed Omari is a Professor of Computer Science and former Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK). He earned his PhD and MSc in Computer Science from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, USA, and an Engineering degree in Computer Science from the University of Oran, Algeria. Before joining AURAK in 2022, he served at the University of Adrar, where he held several academic and leadership positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering Sciences.

His research interests span artificial intelligence, metaheuristic optimization, wireless and sensor networks, energy-efficient clustering and routing, node localization, content-based image retrieval, image and video compression, and cybersecurity. His recent work includes the development of Atomic Energy Optimization, a novel metaheuristic inspired by energy dynamics and dissipation, alongside AI-enabled approaches for enhancing wireless-network efficiency and scalable image retrieval. He has led externally and internally funded research projects, supervised doctoral and master’s researchers, and actively collaborated with faculty members and students. His research has been published in prominent international journals and conference proceedings, including IEEE Access, Sensors, Electronics, Technologies, Applied Sciences, and Computers, Materials & Continua.

Professor Omari has also contributed to the leadership and organization of international conferences and served on numerous technical program committees. In addition, he is a co-inventor of United States patents related to dynamic encryption, wireless communication security, and neural-network-based data compression.
