Al-Bayt Al-Kamel Project Came to Closure
The American University of Ras Al Khaimah made it through the Solar Decathlon Middle East competition held in Dubai successfully with its first Net Zero energy house, Al-Bayt Al-Kamel, surviving the harsh hot weather of the United Arab Emirates.
The American University of Ras Al Khaimah made it through the Solar Decathlon Middle East competition held in Dubai successfully with its first Net Zero energy house, Al-Bayt Al-Kamel, surviving the harsh hot weather of the United Arab Emirates.
The Solar Decathlon is an annual international, undergraduate level competition created by the US. Department of Energy that is held in different parts of the world each year. In 2018, the solar decathlon was held in Dubai and was arranged by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The challenging competition requirements stipulate that the houses should be assembled within two weeks, stand for two weeks for public tours and an evaluation, and be disassembled in one week.
RAK Research and Innovation Center worked hand-in-hand with the AURAK team, assuring the successful design and implementation for the PV system. Two R&D Engineers provided the PV system supervision for the students, ensuring their safety since it was their first experience in working on a high voltage project.
AURAK students went far beyond normal school or working hours to assure the success of Al-Bayt Al-Kamel and ensure that it would be delivered on time. A graduate studies student in Engineering Project Management, Ahmad Amhani, Ahmad Amhani, working on the logistics activities and sponsors coordination, stated “It was a really exhausting project as we had limited time to deliver the project. However, as a project management student, it taught me a lot, and I will never forget this experience”
