AURAK 2019 Engineering Camp

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) hosted the 2019 AURAK Engineering Camp to encourage interest in science among local Ras Al Khaimah high school students.

AURAK, an independent, public, state-owned, non-profit, coeducational institution of higher education offering undergraduate and graduate degrees based on the North American educational model combined with the cultural characteristics of the Gulf region, held its fifth annual, one-day Engineering Camp. Every year the event is organized by the School of Engineering, operating in coordination with several other programs and offices on campus to produce a comprehensive view of engineering education for the community. The camp offered 180 students from several Ras Al Khaimah high schools the opportunity to discover and apply engineering theories through a wide variety of interactive projects of their choosing, the camp activities spanning various engineering disciplines with AURAK Engineering students and faculty. The engineering event included various activities and opportunities that were designed to give young students close, personal encounters with science and engineering in their lives, such as supervised time in the University laboratory with cutting-edge technologies, organized team projects, and tours of the AURAK campus.

AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, was gratified in that the University is able to support initiatives like the Engineering Camp to foster interest in academic fields and life-long learning among the Ras Al Khaimah youth, “The camp was even more successful than last year’s wonderful event. A love of learning needs to be cultivated in children at young age, and there is no better way to encourage that love than through the hands-on discovery of their world around them with the aid of Engineering experts. We were also very happy to encourage young children to think about a lifetime of learning ahead of them, and to see how the university will always be here to encourage and support them, when the time comes to continue their education.”
