AURAK celebrates Global Day 2015

On March 19, Global Day was celebrated at AURAK by its students, faculty and staff. The purpose of Global Day is to allow representatives of different countries present their traditions and customs. Each country had their own booth that was designed in a way that represented their country and included their own traditional food.

The Egyptian booth served kushari and mahshi while the Pakistani booth served potato samosas. The Bangladeshi booth served chicken biryani and the students wore their traditional clothes while the American booth, headed up by Dr. Rusty Waller, had four cakes. One of the cakes was in the shape of an armadillo, an icon in Rusty’s home state of Texas. The Palestinian booth had some yummy sweets as well.

Traditional folk music added a lot to the event while some countries did some amazing performances on the stage. Almaziud Band performed traditional music and a poet read a poem that was liked by all. The Sudanese students performed wedding dances while the Palestinian students had an interactive and exciting stage performance.

In addition, a parachutist wearing the UAE flag landed on the soccer field and some Emirati students rode their Arabian horses onto the campus. As a bonus, this year included a custom car show competition that included a lot of colorful car designs. Overall, a wonderful time was had by all as the event ended around 10 pm that evening.
