AURAK Flies the UAE Colors High

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) celebrated UAE National Flag Day with the ceremonious raising of the United Arab Emirates flag to pay homage to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Flag Day is a UAE national holiday when the people celebrate the anniversary of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s inauguration as president in 2004 and commemorate the sacrifices made by the founding founders, Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Rashid, and their brothers, in unifying the emirates into a single unit. It is a day of national spirit rejuvenation in which to reflect upon the triumphs achieved during the rule of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE flag has become the embodiment of justice, peace, tolerance, power, unification, greatness, and moderation: a token of the people’s aspirations for a brighter future. Emiratis across the UAE sing the country’s National Anthem, hoist the flag above buildings and backyards, organize festivals, and salute the flag in demonstration of their loyalty to their government and as a declaration of their national pride.
At eleven o’clock, AURAK students assembled around the University’s main flagpole located in front of Building G to hoist the national flag high above the University in celebration of Sheikh Zayed. Partakers waved smaller UAE flags as the UAE national flag ascended to the heavens, afterwards enjoying refreshments and fellowship as patriotic music played in the background.
The Dean of the Office of Academic Support Services, Professor Steven Zani, attended the event, “Today showed the love of our university for this great country and its proud tradition. Seeing the flags flying across the city while we raised our own flag on campus showed me the real solidarity and community we have here AURAK, and in the UAE. I couldn't be prouder to have witnessed this event.”
