AURAK Gets Healthy
The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) Biotechnology Department collaborated with the Ministry of Health to organize the “Health for All” workshop in alignment with World Health Day 2019 and the Year of Tolerance, under the patronage of his Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Director of RAK Medical Zone.
The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) Biotechnology Department collaborated with the Ministry of Health to organize the “Health for All” workshop in alignment with World Health Day 2019 and the Year of Tolerance, under the patronage of his Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Director of RAK Medical Zone.
Students crowded into the Multipurpose area in Building G of AURAK Thursday morning to take advantage of free blood pressure readings, Body Mass Index testing, weighing, diabetes checks, and counseling concerning balanced nutrition administered by various UAE medical establishments such as Emirates Hospital Clinic, Max Care Medical Center, General Authority of Medical Affairs and Endowments, Nutrition Department (Obaidullah), Aman Shelter for Women and Children, and Aakash Star General Trading L.L.C. The services were provided for the “Health for All” workshop were organized to participate in World Health Day 2019 “Universal Healthcare Everyone, Everywhere.”
A presentation featuring two speakers, Director of RAK Medical Zone, Dr. Abdullah AlNuaimi, and Dr. Ramasamy Kalavathy of the Nutrition Department at Obaidullah Hospital, commenced. with a welcome speech from Biotechnology students who introduced the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Success and Provost, Professor Stephen Wilhite. He impressed upon the crowd the importance of living a healthy life, stating “half of the people of the world do not receive the health care they need” even though “access to quality health care is a basic right.” He then invited Dr. Abdullah AlNuaimi to the stage who emphasized important health tips, avoiding disease, and getting exercise. Dr. Ramassamy followed with her presentation over “How to Eat Healthy?” defining the composition of a healthy diet.
AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan, Al Alkim, was delighted that AURAK was able to help organize an event that stressed the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to his students, “It is critical that students take care of their physical and emotional state before they can be able to concentrate on their courses.”
