AURAK Hosts ‘Computing in the Workforce’ Workshop

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) today hosted an academic-industry workshop aimed at those studying computer science and computer engineering.

Speaking at the event, chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the university, Dr. Mohammed Awad, stated, “This workshop seeks to minimize the gap between academia and industry. We have invited IT-based industries to showcase their business models and explain to students the role that technology plays in the field of business.”

The invited speakers also encouraged students to explore the idea of opening their own businesses, explaining their own personal paths from graduation to successfully launching their own technology-based enterprises. Guest speakers included Mr. Kefah Jizmawi from Tatweer Software in Dubai, Engineer Orwa Diraneyya from Origin Base in Dubai, and Engineer Naser Sughaiyer from the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center.

‘Computing in the Workforce’ is just the latest workshop in a series organized and hosted by the School of Engineering throughout the semester. Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, AURAK president, commented, “In addition to giving our students the theory and a solid foundation in their core subjects, the ultimate goal for them is to find employment and contribute positively to society. These types of workshops are ideal for our students, as they can gain ideas and inspiration from those who have already made the transition from studying at a university to finding a job within their field of study.”
