The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) this week hosted a visit from a group of students from Keimyung University, based in Daegu, South Korea.

During their two-day stay in Ras Al Khaimah, the group of 16 students and one professor had the opportunity to learn more about the university and the emirate as a whole. They also met leaders of the university’s Student Government Association, as well as the ‘South Korean Club’ whose members share a keen interest in the arts, culture, language and traditions of the peninsula.

In addition to learning about the Arab world, and more specifically, the culture of the United Arab Emirates, the visiting Korean students also organized an interactive session for AURAK faculty, staff and students. They had the opportunity to play traditional Korean games, taste the food and even learn a little about the language.

Heather McGann, manager of the Department of International and Programs and Partnerships, speaking about trip’s success stated, “We expect to enter into a partnership with Keimyung University this spring. Partnerships with South Korean universities are very relevant, as more and more South Koreans relocate to Ras Al Khaimah and South Korean culture has become incredibly popular with young residents of the UAE.”

AURAK currently offers a range of study abroad opportunities at a total of 21 institutions across North American, Europe and Asia. In 2016, the university signed a partnership agreement with Konkuk University, which is based in Seoul, South Korea.
