AURAK Hosts Math Conference

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has hosted another mathematics conference this week.

The two-day conference, which was organized by the university’s Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department housed in the School of Arts and Sciences, featured lectures from prominent academics from across the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as the United States and Canada. The main focus of the conference was on a wide spectrum of mathematics fields and included a parallel session for physics and chemistry.

Lecturers included Dr. Nader Masmoudi from New York University, and Dr. Slim Ibrahim from the University of Victoria in Canada. A number of universities and academic institutions from across the UAE were also represented, such as NYU – Abu Dhabi, the American University of Sharjah, the Petroleum Institution, Khalifa University, and United Arab Emirates University.

AURAK was also represented, with talks delivered by Dr. Suleyman Ulusoy, Dr. Saad Balhasan, Dr. Hamid Berriche, Dr. Irshad Ahmad, Dr. Shagufta Waseem, Dr. Mustapha Merabet and Dr. Ali Maalaoui.

Dr. Ali Maalaoui, chair of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department at AURAK and organizer of the conference, commenting on the importance and impact of such conferences stated. “These kinds of academic gatherings are the key to enhancing research and collaboration with other institutions, as we aim to make AURAK one of the leading institutions in the region in terms of research.

“We made sure to include physics and chemistry in this second conference to encourage multi-disciplinary interactions. We are also looking forward to hosting the UAE Math Day next year; a national gathering of mathematicians from across the region which will take place at our university.”
